"Jacob van Heemskerck" (III)  

The Jacob van Heemskerck (III), sister ship of the Willem Barendsz, was added on 6th March 1964 to the Wijsmuller fleet . This tugboat is built  by Jonker & Stans shipyard at Hendrik Ido Ambacht, Holland. Gross tonnage 623 tons, length overall  173', breadth mld. 33' and depth 16'. Two 6 cyl. Werkspoor two stroke single acting turbo charged diesel engines coupled to a reduction gear, which in turn is connected to a slow revolving variable pitch propeller, housed in a Kort nozzle, giving a total-output of  5375 I.H.P., in 1969  the total-output was increased of 6350 pk. The tug is sold in 1981 to Malayan Salvage & Towing Co. Ltd., Manilla and renamed Hurricane II.
